Whisky Galore

Whisky Tours in Scotland

Whisky Galore is the title of an old film from 1949 where locals "rescued" a cargo of whisky from a stranded ship off their village. They found ingenious ways to hide their many bottles of Scotch from the taxman who was determined to find the whisky but was ultimately outwitted by the increasingly happy (and often sozzled) locals.

There's so many wonderful whisky distilleries to choose from. On this tour we will spend the day in Speyside, the home of some of the world's most famous whisky distilleries. Driving through beautiful scenery, we will take a distillery tour at one of the distilleries and sample a wee dram or two of the 'water of life'. In some distilleries you can choose to fill your own bottle and personalise it to create a wonderful memory of your visit.

A stop at Speyside Cooperage will show us how the skilled Coopers (experienced barrel makers) construct the whisky barrels -

back-breaking work. Coopers are often paid by results, so the more they make, the better their pay.  The fastest time to make a 190 litre whisky barrel in Scotland is 3 minutes and 3.18 seconds, set by David McKenzie at  Speyside Cooperage in 2017. He assembled the cask from 28 staves and metal hoops, beating his colleagues in a competition.

We will take time to enjoy great Scottish fayre at a local, well-stocked whisky bar where you can indulge in another wee dram to accompany your local, freshly cooked lunch.
