Coopers are experienced barrel makers who construct and repair whisky barrels which is back-breaking work. Coopers are often paid by results, so the more they make, the better their pay. The fastest time to make a 190 litre whisky barrel in Scotland is 3 minutes and 3.18 seconds, set by David McKenzie at Speyside Cooperage in 2017. He assembled the cask from 28 staves and metal hoops, beating his colleagues in a competition.
